The Basic Requirements
To qualify for the Google Ad Grant, your organization must meet several criteria. The good news is that most legitimate nonprofits do qualify — but it's worth checking each requirement carefully before you start the application process.
Who Doesn't Qualify
Even if you're a registered nonprofit, some types of organizations are excluded from the program:
Website Requirements That Trip People Up
Your website is a big part of the eligibility check. Google will review your site during the application process, and many nonprofits get rejected because their website doesn't meet the standard. Here's what Google is looking for:
- 1. Your own domain. You need to own your domain (e.g., yournonprofit.org). Sites on free hosting platforms like yournonprofit.wordpress.com or yournonprofit.wixsite.com won't be accepted.
- 2. SSL certificate. Your site must use HTTPS. If visitors see a "Not Secure" warning in their browser, Google will reject your application.
- 3. Substantial content. Your website needs to clearly explain who you are, what you do, and how people can get involved. A one-page site with minimal text won't pass review.
- 4. No excessive advertising. If your site is covered in display ads from other ad networks, Google may reject your application. The grant is meant for nonprofits, not ad-revenue businesses.
Types Of Nonprofits That Commonly Qualify
If you're wondering whether your specific type of nonprofit is a good fit, here are some of the most common categories of organizations that successfully use the Google Ad Grant:
Animal Rescue & Shelters
Food Banks & Hunger Relief
Environmental Organizations
Arts & Cultural Nonprofits
Youth Development Programs
Human Services Organizations
International Aid & Relief
Religious Organizations
